The first report published by the Transform Scotland Trust, \u2018Towards a Healthier Economy\u2019: Why investing in sustainable transport makes economic sense, was undertaken in partnership with Sustrans.<\/p>\n

The research examined where information on the economic benefits of sustainable transport exists and where there are gaps in current knowledge.\u00a0 Scotland’s economy could benefit by up to \u00a34 billion annually if the country was to move to continental European levels of cycle use, and meet Scottish Government Ministers’ aspirations.<\/p>\n

The report recommended the incorporation of health impacts of transport decisions into the Scottish Government\u2019s STAG appraisal framework.<\/p>\n

Amongst other things, the report also highlights the costs to the economy from car use, and the annual deficits suffered by Scotland’s economy due to the aviation industry.<\/p>\n
