Ninety-one per cent of those surveyed by ScotPulse wanted inter-city rail services at least as fast as the parallel roads.<\/p>\n<p>We launched the opinion poll as part of the next phase of our Inter-City Express campaign. As part of the campaign, we have also published a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/transform.scot\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Inter-City-Express-brochure1.pdf\">new campaign brochure<\/a> which sets out our aspirations for the Scottish inter-city network:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Inverness to Perth<\/strong>: Double and Electrify<\/li>\n<li><strong>Aberdeen to the Central Belt<\/strong>: Upgrade and Electrify<\/li>\n<li><strong>Aberdeen to Inverness<\/strong>: Hourly service, under 2 hours<\/li>\n<li><strong>Edinburgh-Perth Direct<\/strong>: Just 45 Minutes, Centre to Centre<\/li>\n<li><strong>Perth<\/strong>: A New Inter-City Rail Hub<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/transform.scot\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/TRAC-ICE.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-977 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/transform.scot\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/TRAC-ICE.jpg\" alt=\"TRAC ICE\" width=\"720\" height=\"250\" srcset=\"https:\/\/transform.scot\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/TRAC-ICE.jpg 720w, https:\/\/transform.scot\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/TRAC-ICE-300x104.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 720px) 100vw, 720px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>As part of the news release issued, our rail campaigner Paul Tetlaw said:<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThis opinion poll result clearly demonstrates that the vast majority of the Scottish public wants faster trains between our cities. It is about time that the Scottish Government matched its policy commitments to Scotland\u2019s inter-city rail network with some actual investment in the infrastructure.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cIt is frankly embarrassing that some of our inter-city rail routes are slower than they were over a century ago. In 1895, it was possible to travel by steam train from Perth to Edinburgh in 65 minutes, but today the fastest journey takes 71 minutes.
