Transform Scotland are happy to support the proposal put forward by Spokes<\/a>, the Lothian Cycle Campaign, for 1% of the trunk roads budget to be switched into active travel spend in the final version of the Scottish Government’s budget for 2016-17.<\/p>\n

As we said in our response to the mid-December Budget announcement, sustainable transport had again lost out in the Scottish Government’s draft expenditure plans<\/a>.<\/p>\n

While we have long set out our view that there is a need for substantially higher levels of investment in walking and cycling if the aims and targets in the Cycling Action Plan for Scotland and National Walking Strategy are to be met. However, Spokes’ proposal would make an excellent start and we are happy to add our support to the proposal.
