Transform Scotland has recently joined with 25 other European NGOs to demand a reduction in shipping and aviation emissions throughout the European Union.<\/p>\n

The Letter to Ministers<\/a>, organised by the Transport & Environment group, highlights the worrying growth in emissions from planes and ships and points out the associated risks of keeping these emissions uncapped.<\/p>\n

Emissions from these sectors are growing rapidly, with aviation responsible for almost 5% of global warming and shipping responsible for 3% of CO2 emissions. Given that the EU must reduce carbon emissions by 40% by \u00a02030, shipping and aviation emissions must be reduced in the near future to help meet this target.\u00a0Allowing emissions from these sectors to continue to grow also undermines the recent Paris Agreement, which seeks to limit global temperature rises to no more than 2 degrees.<\/p>\n

Transform Scotland, along with all other signatories of the letter to the European Union, are calling for action from the International Civic Aviation Organisation, International Maritime Organisation and from the EU to minimise future emissions from shipping and aviation.<\/p>\n
