Concerns had been raised that this could hinder\u00a0the development of cycle tourism and cycling as a means of commuting to work.<\/p>\n<p>The key points raised in our briefing are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>We welcome the introduction of the Class 125 HST trains to the inter-city rail routes in Scotland. They\u00a0will deliver a better quality for services north of the Central Belt and will boost passenger numbers<\/li>\n<li>There is a need to upgrade infrastructure to allow rail to compete with the car and decrease journey times<\/li>\n<li>Cycle tourism contributes \u00a3345 million to the Scottish economy. Cycle carriage on trains should be considered in the context of cycle tourism with the aim of developing this market.<\/li>\n<li>The limited cycle capacity offered at intermediate stations appears to compromise the passenger offering as a way of speeding up journey times.
