Transform Scotland has recently responded to the National Transport Strategy Research & Evidence working group’s Call for Evidence.<\/p>\n

The response focused on the transport choices, modal split and demand. Chief among the issues raised was that transport choices reflect the price of transport, which is presenting a barrier to seeing a significant shift away from private car use to public transport. \u00a0The failure to account for the negative external costs of private car use and aviation is resulting in buses and train operators to lose out, due to the true costs of these modes being reflected in their prices. The issue of external costs and the price of transport must be given serious consideration in order to achieve a reduction in carbon emissions, make transport affordable for everyone and deliver sustainable economic growth for Scottish industries.<\/p>\n
