Transform Scotland has welcomed the Environment Committee’s\u00a0warning<\/a> that cuts in the Scottish Budget could hinder the Government’s action on climate change, but stresses that more needs to be done to tackle transport emissions.<\/p>\n

Successive Scottish Budgets have prioritised unsustainable transport ahead of public transport, walking and cycling, resulting in transport now being the largest source of emissions in Scotland.<\/p>\n

Commenting on the Environment Committee’s warning, Jamie Wylie, Transform Scotland spokesperson, said:<\/p>\n

“We’re pleased to see concerns being raised about the climate proofing of the Scottish Budget. If the Scottish Government is to meet its national and international climate commitments, we need to see the Budget much more closely aligned with climate change.<\/em><\/p>\n

“Whilst there has been a modest increase in funding for active and sustainable transport, the Budget continues to prioritise spending on roads ahead of investment in sustainable modes. Rebalancing the transport budget to make public transport, walking and cycling the easiest, most reliable and most affordable options is one of the best ways to tackle climate change in Scotland.”<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
