{"id":4913,"date":"2018-03-27T11:40:44","date_gmt":"2018-03-27T11:40:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/transform.scot\/?p=4913"},"modified":"2018-03-28T11:45:55","modified_gmt":"2018-03-28T11:45:55","slug":"city-region-deals-a-good-deal-for-sustainable-transport","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/transform.scot\/blog\/2018\/03\/27\/city-region-deals-a-good-deal-for-sustainable-transport\/","title":{"rendered":"City Region Deals: A good deal for sustainable transport?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ahead of today&#8217;s debate in Parliament on the City Region Deals, we&#8217;ve issued a briefing to MSPs expressing our concerns about the Deals.<\/p>\n<p>The briefing outlines several key points:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>City Region Deals (CRDs) have the potential to improve sustainable transport in Scotland\u2019s cities, but must be more transparent and should improve their public engagement<\/li>\n<li>All projects should be subject to an equality and sustainability assessment<\/li>\n<li>All CRDs should be subject to a review process, as is the case with the Glasgow CRD<\/li>\n<li>The CRDs should prioritise investment in reliable, convenient and affordable public transport, walking and cycling projects<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Commenting on the City Region Deals, Jamie Wylie, Spokesperson for Transform Scotland, said:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<em>From the CRDs agreed so far, it appears that transport projects have largely focused on road building. For<\/em><br \/>\n<em>example, the LGC Committee\u2019s report points out that the Edinburgh CRD saw the Sheriffhall Roundabout<\/em><br \/>\n<em>project receive significant investment, whilst the the Levenmouth Rail Link \u2013 a project which would deliver<\/em><br \/>\n<em>significant benefits in Fife and beyond \u2013 was not selected. <\/em><em>This raises serious questions about the criteria\u00a0<\/em><em>used for project selection. <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;At a time when the Scottish Government is failing to meet its targets\u00a0<\/em><em>on congestion, modal shift and air quality, the CRDs represent a unique opportunity to address these issues\u00a0<\/em><em>by investing in affordable, convenient and reliable public transport, walking and cycling infrastructure.<\/em>&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The briefing can be found <a href=\"https:\/\/transform.scot\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/City-Region-Deals-Transform-Scotland-briefing-2018-03-27.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ahead of today&#8217;s debate in Parliament on the City Region Deals, we&#8217;ve issued a briefing to MSPs expressing our concerns about the Deals.
