The Scottish Government has today announced that the adjusted emissions for 2017 show that Scotland has disappointingly missed it’s emission reduction targets. A further 2.2% rise in Transport emissions, primarily from car use and aviation were key to the rise in total emissions.<\/p>\n

The report shows that in 2017 road transport alone was the largest source of emissions in Scotland, rising 11.1% since 1990. Aviation was the other clear problem in today’s figures with a 6.8% rise in emissions between 2016 and 2017, and a 181% rise since 1990.<\/p>\n

The 2.2% rise in transport emissions between 2016-2017 means transport now accounts for 37% of Scotland’s total emissions, significantly higher than any other sector.<\/p>\n

On this Colin Howden, Director of Transform Scotland, said:<\/p>\n

“It is desperate news that Scottish transport climate emissions have again increased. This is not accidental: it is a direct result of the Scottish Government prioritising road-building ahead of sustainable transport, notably \u00a36 billion for A9 & A96 roads that could instead be spent on tackling the climate emergency.”<\/em><\/p>\n
