Transform has submitted its evidence on road maintenance to the Scottish Parliament’s Rural Economy and Connectivity Committee.<\/p>\n

Transform director Colin Howden said:\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

“Scotland is estimated to have a road maintenance backlog of over \u00a32 billion. Fixing this should be the first focus for national and local roads policy \u2014 not adding additional road capacity. Fixing local roads would help not only car users, but also pedestrians, cyclists and bus users.<\/em><\/p>\n

“The key question we would like the Committee to consider is as follows: The Scottish Government was able to find \u00a36 billion for two road schemes (the A9 & A96 dualling schemes) \u2014 so why can\u2019t \u00a32 billion be found to clear all of Scotland\u2019s road maintenance backlog?”<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
