{"id":9482,"date":"2021-09-07T18:54:04","date_gmt":"2021-09-07T17:54:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/transform.scot\/?p=9482"},"modified":"2021-09-15T19:28:02","modified_gmt":"2021-09-15T18:28:02","slug":"programme-for-government-commentary","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/transform.scot\/blog\/2021\/09\/07\/programme-for-government-commentary\/","title":{"rendered":"Programme for Government commentary"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Transform&#8217;s response to the Scottish Government&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.scot\/programme-for-government\/\">Programme for Government<\/a> this year took the form of a tweeted commentary from our director Colin Howden. <em>(In truth, there wasn&#8217;t much new in the PfG on transport this year, all of the new material having come from the Scottish Government\/Scottish Green Party deal that had been published three week previously.)<\/em><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">From <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/SustainableTransport?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#SustainableTransport<\/a> perspective, the most important commitment in <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/ScotPfG?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#ScotPfG<\/a> is to reduce car kilometres by 20% by 2030.<\/p>\n<p>This was initially announced in December 2020&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/ClimateChangePlan?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#ClimateChangePlan<\/a> update.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Colin Howden (@TS_Director) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TS_Director\/status\/1435264146271088646?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">September 7, 2021<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Pleased that <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/ScotPfG?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#ScotPfG<\/a> restates that at least \u00a3320 million or 10% of the total transport budget to be spent on <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/ActiveTravel?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#ActiveTravel<\/a> by 2024-25.<\/p>\n<p>This was a win for <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/scottishgreens?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@scottishgreens<\/a> in its agreement with <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/scotgov?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@scotgov<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s something that <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TransformScot?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@TransformScot<\/a> has been campaigning for for a decade.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Colin Howden (@TS_Director) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TS_Director\/status\/1435264150742212618?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">September 7, 2021<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/ScotPfG?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#ScotPfG<\/a> restates &#8220;remove the majority of diesel buses from public transport by the end of 2023&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>This first appeared in <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/theSNP?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@theSNP<\/a> 2021 Holyrood manifesto, and surprised many folk then.<\/p>\n<p>Very ambitious, but great if it can be done. Will need a lot of investment in <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/ElectricBuses?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#ElectricBuses<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Colin Howden (@TS_Director) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TS_Director\/status\/1435264155498471427?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">September 7, 2021<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Some people are very happy that <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/scotgov?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@scotgov<\/a> has &#8220;begun the process of bringing ScotRail into public ownership and control&#8221;, as featured in <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/ScotPfG?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#ScotPfG<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The first thing that has happened here is for <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/scotgov?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@scotgov<\/a> ministers to instruct <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ScotRail?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@ScotRail<\/a> to cut services.
